Hello all, There is an project called the "Universal Declaration of Human Rights in Unicode" at http://udhrinunicode.org. The idea is to make the content of this important document available in as many languages as possible. You can read about the UDHR here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_Declaration_of_Human_Rights Currently, as far as I know, the only version of the UDHR in Khmer which is available is a pdf on the United Nations website: http://www.unhchr.ch/udhr/lang/kmr.htm This version is not in Unicode. I wonder if it would be possible for the KhmerOS community to work together to type up this document in Unicode and make it available to http://udhrinunicode.org? It is available already in Thai, Lao, and Vietnamese, but not Khmer! That simply won't do! :-) Should anyone here be interested, there are detailed instructions at this page: http://udhrinunicode.org/contributing.html I will also forward a link to this thread to the organizer of the project, Eric Muller. I'm not a Khmer speaker, I just think what the KhmerOS community has done is really great, and I would like to see the Khmer version of the UDHR in its rightful place on udhrinunicode.org. Progress!

Hello friends, I was away from the internet for a whole week last week (I know, difficult to imagine ;-) ), sorry for the delay. I have received a number of contributions to this project! Does Khmer OS team start it or not yet?

Hi Rithy, I was thinking, what if the community worked on the transcription right here in this thread? I made images of the whole document and posted them on my website: http://ruphus.com/udhrkm/ Maybe it would be possible to post, say, the images from a single page (like http://ruphus.com/udhrkm/KM-1a.png and http://ruphus.com/udhrkm/KM-1b.png ) in a comment, and then for whoever to transcribe that page in a subsequent comment, and then post the next page, etc.? Then, once there was a complete set of transcriptions, someone could string them all together into a single document, and send it off to the site. This way, people could contribute a relatively small amount of work at a time. What do you think? Best, Pat ps. In case anyone would like to try, here is the first page:

Awesome Rithy! Yeah, there should be 11 pages, each in with an "a" and "b" .png file in my directory. Note that some of the "b"s might overlap a bit with the "a"s -- if any confusion results from that, I'd suggest just referring to the original pdf that I linked in the my original post. In the interest of trying to simplify tracking progress, I made a little project page with some background info in that same directory, check it out: http://ruphus.com/udhrkm/ Hopefully if there's a Khmer speaker you know who might like to contribute, that page will be enough for them to get started. I'll also include my email (pathall@gmail.com). Then, anyone can complete a page and send me the transcribed text. I'll also check back in this thread to look for submissions on this page, hopefully there won't be any duplicated effort. I'll keep a running version of the transcription there too, so everything can be double checked. KhmerOS rocks :) -p@
