Google has officially given Windows operating systems the boot, on and off the California campus. Partially a lead-up to the Google Chrome OS and partially a response to Windows security breaks, this move has attracted international attention. Google employees are given an option of which operating system they want to use on their company-issued computers. Google employees, to use Windows, now have to get official approval from the Google CIO. At the exact same time that Windows use has been officially limited, Google's Chrome OS is being pushed as an option option. The fact that Windows is so popular makes it a very popular target for viruses, worms, and a lot more. This security hole has led to Google disallowing the system – it’s simply too easy to hack. Because Google's dedicated developers design programs for wide use, they're able to stay away from many of the downfalls of Windows security holes.Is the Google Windows fight a marketing ploy?A few observers have suggested that Google kicking Windows out of its offices is a lot more about publicity than security. For the last year or two, Google has been creating Chrome OS – a Windows competitor. The Google Chrome web browser was the first public release of this operating system. Developers can be allowed to edit and alter the Google Chrome OS, because it is an open-source piece of programming. The idea that open source programs are much less secure is a theory about security of operating systems that has proven incorrect. Google offices won’t be using Windows anymore, but this is not just because Google is developing a competitor.
